Goddess of resistance and survival
Streaming auf der Website von Romano Svato [ENA] Bibi Sara Kali is a Roma goddess which symbolizes resistance and survival. She is a magic creature, a superwoman, a goddess who protects. The cultus of Bibi Sara Kali is broadly celebrated by the Roma community but especially on the Balkans where it finds its reincarnation in the Day of an Aunt. The theatre performance “Bibi Sara Kali” was produced by a union of Roma.
It was produced after the idea of a Viennese artist Simonida Selimović. The story was written by Ibrahim Amir and performed by the ensemble „Romano Svato“. The story is performed by professional artists from the Roma community. The story is about a woman who wants to see her home community in Serbia. In this community she is celebrating, and she is dying the day after the fest. Her death lives her daughters Snežana, Melisa and Tanja with several open questions. Their mother migrated thirty years ago from the community Bibijako Djive in Serbia to Vienna, Austria. All this time she was hiding her identify of a Roma woman and she also educated her daughters without Roma traditions.
This story is about cultural heritage of the Roma community but also about the fact that many members of Roma community are trying to hide their identity as Roma people. They are doing this because of the existing threat of racisms and discrimination. Many people are also not proud to show their identity because of various existing stereotypes and prejudices. This theatre play is about tolerance and diversity in society, is about tabus and breaking the tabus as well as about the richness of the culture of Roma people.
